Our Legacy: MiG's History
Our history goes far beyond our portfolio of projects and accomplishments. Beneath all relationships; both professional and personal – one thing remains. Integrity. It’s part of our roots, our tradition and legacy. The Jenkins family presents a long line of highly successful people. People that dare to dream beyond barriers – and have fulfilled those dreams that have changed the lives of everyone around them. We are proud of our roots, and excited to introduce them to you.
Charles Jenkins: In the late 1800’s, Charles was referred to as “Detroit’s leading African American contractor”. His leadership and expertise is the foundation of MiG today – because he set the bar of excellence when it was a challenge to be African American, let alone to be known as the best.
Joseph Jenkins: In 1937, graduating top of his class with a degree in civil engineering from U of M, Joseph was the only African American in the program. Additionally, he was the first African American Officer in the US Coast Guard and is celebrated to this day for paving the way for minorities in the military. He owned his own construction company named Jenkins & Young, and worked for the state highway dept. In his 44 years of life, he accomplished more than some of us dream of – and touched the lives of many. READ MORE about Joseph being honored for his Military Service here.
Paul Jenkins: Paul Sr started his entrepreneurial journey in 1984 and founded founded MiG in 1999 on the same values and leadership principals of the generations before him. His entire life, he has displayed innovation and integrity. Even though he has been at the forefront of some of the world’s most exciting projects, he remains humble and true to his values of always doing the right thing no matter what. MiG is his career and his legacy. It has also become an extension of his family – as he leads our team with true care for his staff and their families. A true Pioneer.
PJ Jenkins Jr. in his role as Director of Strategic Growth and Business Development, works closely with the executive team in creating and leading the execution of MiG’s geographic and market expansion programs, identifying new and early-stage partnering and collaboration opportunities and targeting strategies that set and maintain MiG on a course of consistent growth. Like his father, Paul Jenkins, Sr., and the Jenkins men before him, PJ has an entrepreneurial flair, a firmly placed future orientation, and a dedication to honoring his family legacy and making a difference in our city, our community, and the world.
MiG is about making a difference. We make a difference to ourselves, our employees, our communities and our clients. To us, leaving a legacy isn’t about how much money we made or how many buildings we built. It’s about how we impacted the world and what we left behind. To us, it’s about making sure our employees feel valued, secure and like an extension of our family. That’s what is important to us.
This is who we are. A company built on four generations of family values and leadership, service, ability to face adversity, and doing the right thing – no matter what. A company that contributes, not only financially in donations but with our time. With our resources, with our advice. A company with integrity that honors our word – because our word is the highest form of commitment we can offer. Thank you for reading our story.
